  3. Share access to your Google doc with your principal or email a PDF of your grant application to your principal for approval.

  4. If approved, your principal will forward your grant application to HEF who will notify you when your grant application has been received. If you do not receive a confirmation email within a few days of submission, contact your principal.

  5. The HEF board of directors will review grant requests in mid-October & mid-February. Award announcements and paperwork will be sent out shortly thereafter.

Tips for Writing Successful HEF Grants

  • Complete - Answer all questions on the application.

  • Edit - Have someone edit/review your application for content and clarity.

  • Collaborate - Consider collaborating on grant requests with staff from other classrooms and/or buildings if requesting similar items.

  • Project description - Please describe your project succinctly. Do not assume that HEF board members are familiar with educational jargon, acronyms or materials. Let us know if this is a new item or pilot program, or something that is already being used successfully in other classrooms in the district or elsewhere.

  • Alignment - Explain how this grant aligns with district-approved curricula.

  • Itemized Budget - Very Important! List specific items with exact costs. Include shipping and handling costs. Do not include tax.

  • How will success be measured - Will success be measured through state assessments, classroom assessments, project or student evaluations, parent input, increased student participation, motivation, enthusiasm,...,etc.?

  • Applied for other funding sources - Please let us know if you are also requesting funds from the HPS PTO or other district booster groups so that we can coordinate our efforts. If you are requesting a particularly large sum, we would also like to know if you are looking for, or have already received (including from HEF) other funding to help meet your goals.

  • Other information (optional) - Feel free to include informational websites, research supporting the use of requested materials, details about technology or other materials already in your classroom/building/district that support the use of requested materials, or additional information about the project/goals.

  • Questions? Email Wendy Schregardus.
